History of Ikarus 260

Ikarus 260 it is an solo version of well-know articulated bus from Hungary. The serie was produced in various combinations described by numbers and sometimes letters after dot in their name. First prototypes were built in 1971 and year later normal production were started. Till the 2002 (when production stopped) 73 547 items of this bus were produced and about 1/3 share of it were exported to USSR. First buses of this type arrived to Poland in 1974 year. The lucky towns were Częstochowa, Katowice and Bielsko Biała. But decission of mass import of ikaruses were made in the beginning of 80s when the failure called Jelcz PR110U became well known for urban transport companies. According to ministry of transport guidelines Ikaruses 260 were delivered to the biggest cities in Poland like Warszawa, Upper Silesia Conurbation (means WPK Katowice), Łódź, Kraków, Poznań, Gdynia and Bydgoszcz. Of cource there was exceptions like Kielce (10 items in 1984) and WPK Wałbrzych which received 30 items. The curiosity was that MPK Wrocław did not received Ikaruses 260, maybe it was caused by higher volume of supplies of articulated Ikaruses 280 and closeness of Jelcz factory. Wrocław received more Ikaruses 280 than bigger Kraków (315 vs 299).

As wrote above MPK Wrocław did not received Ikaruses 260 but in the middle of 90s Dolnośląskie Linie Autobusowe bought used Ikaruses 260 from Bydgoszcz and Jelenia Góra and finally Ikarus 260 entered to service on urban transport routes. They served till 2008-2009 year when all of them were retired.

Bus Ikarus 260.04 with number 3931 was the last 260 in service in city urban transport in Poland. From delivery from factory in 1983 till 2014 it served in Gliwice and was sold to private person. From 2014 till 2017 it resided in Łodź and finally landed Wrocław. Now the condition of this vehicle is poor to enter to service it need main repair of corroded construction. Probably it will be sold because cost of repair exceeds financial potential of the club.
